The Låtmores are a unique duo consisting of Paul Sinclair (fiddle, Scotland) and Janeta Österberg (accordion, Finland). Their music explores the traditions of both the Nordic and Celtic cultures, celebrating both individually, while also comparing, contrasting, and blending them in new ways. Through this they also shine a spotlight on Finlandssvensk culture, a community which both musicians are also a part of. As such, expect to hear everything from haunting melodies decorated with gorgeous harmonies to pumping reels bursting with energy, and everything in between. This duo are a wonderful example of what can be produced when different cultures mix together and share ideas and music, creating something not to be missed.
Paul and Janeta first met in 2017 at Ethno Finland, an international music project that brings together traditional musicians from all around the world for a week of musical and cultural sharing. Inspired by that experience, they played together several more times before officially joining forces as a duo in December 2019. This was unfortunate timing however, as after only three gigs, COVID-19 made it illegal for them to be in the same country! Undeterred, they continued as soon as their governments allowed, and have now performed in Scotland, Finland, and Belgium, including at festivals such as Northern Streams, Kaustinen Folk Festival, and Celtic Connections.
The duo are currently working on their first studio album, scheduled for release in 2024. Sign up to their mailing list or follow their Facebook page to stay up date with the latest news!
